Brachytherapy Today

I had my long awaited seed implant today. Eighty nine iodine 125 seeds were implanted by Dr. Viroon Donavanik of Helen Graham Cancer Center, Delaware. I passed 300 cc of urine within two hours of the procedure. After that I passed several 1/4 inch size blood clots. That was painful like razon blades. Since then I have passed urine twice within the last six hours. Now there is no blood in urine. No pain at the needle insertion sites. I hope things will remain more or less like this. But radiation takes some time to take effect. Iodine seeds are weaker, so may take longer to impact. I am hoping for the best.

HW has helped me tremendously to cope with prostate cancer diagnosis. Reading about many success stories give us encourgaement and strength to be prostate cancer survivors.

I am very proud to be part of this caring community.

I will post on my progress regurlarly.

Congrats on a good decision. As a fellow 'seedling', I am confident that you will be very pleased with your choice of treatment.

Glad things are settling down.  Hopefully you will be back to normal in a day or two.  I'll hope for great progress and watch for your reports.

I had HDR in two sessions, so I went through approximately what you did, only twice.   I did have burning urination for two days after the first session.   With the second session they used a different ointment with the catheter and there was no burning.  

I did not have any real beeding or clots, just pink pee for the first twentyfour hours.   I was on an anti-inflamatory steroid for six days with the dose decreasing each day, levaquin for infection, a capsule (that the name escapes me that turned my pee bright green and stained my shorts if I dribbled) that was to ease urinary discomfort, and Flomax.   In all they kept everything pretty normal.

I did have some discomfort sitting on a hard chair or bench for a week or so.   Be careful not to just plop down on a chair as you may have some discomfort for awhile.

   

Remember:
No caffine and alcohol. FlowMax and Ibuprobin will be your best friends for the next few weeks.
