Had the Cryo surgery done on 4/28/11 and I have been on Cialis for about 27 days and using the Erecaid from Obson for about 4 weeks, how long can I expect to wait for a natural erection to take place. Wife refuses that I use the supplied penis ring for the pump to have sex, says it is an artificial erection and waste of money. Any response is appreciated

Hey, welcome to the Droop Group. Hope everything else is looking ok after your procedure? What are the erectile prospects supposed to be after Cryo? Since the nerves in question are right on the sides of prostate they get frozen too. (Although I do see that some Docs are now doing a form of Nerve Sparing Cryo where they try to avoid freezing those areas). I guess the nerves are supposed to regenerate over time -- at least they don't get moved or cut like in a Prostatectomy.

That is tough that your wife does not appreciate the pumped penis idea. Is it because after pumping it is "Too Big" now? That can happen -- too much of a good thing! Also some positions might be more frustrating with a pumped P -- best for me was SPOONS position -- not On Top position -- a better angle etc.

Well there's always injections -- but those might be deemed artificial too! Then what will you do?

Welcome to the site.

At your stage -  Cialis is suppost to be part of the healing process. It helps get blood to flow down younder to keep junior healthy.

My urologist told me not to expect much after cryo in regard to sexual function. I was more worried about other complications.

During the Cryo temp probes are placed near the nerves to monitor them from being frozen, my doc told me that I should be fully functional after 6 weeks. Tomorrow is week 9 and the Cialis has not done anything for me at all taking 5mg daily and every 3rd day the 20mg. The pump does work but as I said the wife in not for it, I have has sex with my wife since surgery with a limp noodle and achieved orgasm but it is not the same. How have alot of you dealt with the loss of not being able to have an erection for 15-20 months or so if not longer? I have found it very difficult to deal with, feel as though I have lost my masculinity.

Did your doc tell you that it would never work again? what other complications were you worried about?

Not letting it get you is part of the "new normal". I am 21 months out from DaVinci, in which I was told there was little hope of sparing any nerves. I'll be in line for shots or an implant at some point, and that will just have to be part of what comes with "new normal".

Someone else started a thread about our doctors being too optimistic. I guess they are trained to do that, but I have learned that when statistics are quoted, they don't have a clue what is going to happen to the poor individual they are talking to.

By the way - the dry and limp orgasm was sure a surprise. Different.

My doctor indicated cryo was not the best choice if sexuality was very important. I think I read stats that were not optimistic also.
My prostate cancer had already affected my ability to ejaculate. I also thought my sex life was not going to get better with old age. I also have somewhat low testosterone and would not be willing to take shots to raise T.
I was most worried about incontinence with surgery and also possible radiation burns if I chose radiation. I did not like exposure to radiation including CT scans to aim radiation device.
So the whole choice was a big dilemma.
If it were FDA approved and covered by insurance, I probably would have picked HIFU. But nooo...........its not approved in USA yet.
I am not wearing pads and only leak once in a while when I pass gas.I had an apparent urethra wound but it seems to be healed. I am getting up to urinate more at night. I am taking Vesicare to control urgency.
