I was looking at some of the proton treatment options available, and as it turns out there is a new center scheduled to be
opened later this year or early in 2013 at the Univ of Tn Medical Center, where I'm currently being scheduled for brachytherapy on Jan 18th. It looks like a very attractive option, but unfortunately it won't
open in time for treating me. Of course, my insurance won't cover it as in-network procedure right now, but likely will be in-network when it
opens. I know the research right now doesn't say its anymore effective than conventional beam therapy, but I like the idea that it doesn't seem to irradiate other tissues on its way to the target, and delivers 100% of the dose rate at the focalized target
location.
Kinda sucks for me, but it may be an option for someone else.
