Dr. Myers/Dattoli experiences?

Hello,

I have been a member of this forum for about 3 years but havent posted in a while. My father will be going to sandlake imaging in the next month and hopefully will be referred to Dr. Dattoli. I know there have been a couple of members here who have been treated by Dr. Dattoli, would those people please share their experiences?? My dad will not be doing radiation as a primary treatment. He had RP (which later failed), then he had combination treatment of hormones and radiation (72GY) which also later failed, and now his psa is at 1.48, he does not want to start hormones, but is hoping to locate the cancer and have it radiated. This is upon recommendation from Dr. Myers. Please if anyone can chime in and let me know their experience. Thanks!

Can't answer your question, but saw your name and wanted to say hello, ltns! Good to hear from you. Give my best to your father, I know he hasn't had an easy time either in his PC journey.

This link is a discussion about Sand Lake Imaging, Dattoli and the Feraheme scan. I did this research last year as I have a rising PSA and was looking for ways to determine it's source.

I believe that there have been 2 of our HW brothers that have gone there for the scan. Hopefully they will chime in soon.

Dr. Dattoli offers to do a free consultation by phone. I took him up on it. I was very very dissappointed in the discussion. Actually, discussion isn't even the right term. He spent an hour preaching at me how he invented modern IMRT and now has invented the next generation. His treatment is the only viable approach. Surgery is irresponsible for any patient. Why are all these surgical patients coming to him with biochemical failure, because surgery is medically wrong treatment for PCa. He would not let me ask any questions through the whole hour. At the end I asked him if he had looked at my case and what the treatment would entail. He told me he had to go, another patient to call. Just call his office and they will gladly tell me about the standard treatment protocol.

He may be a great doctor, I can't comment on that. But I can tell you that I was so turned off by him I would not even consider following up. To me he felt like a snake oil salesmen. Someone I could not trust for a split second.

Others may have positive experiences, and if so, please post them to offset this experience. All I can tell you is my personal experience was very poor.

I have no experience with Dattoli. I was, however, referred to Sand Lake by Myers. He felt that my bone mets were few enough to qualify for ferraheme targeting and spot radiation. Three days of very sophisticated imaging revealed far more metastases than expected and I am now on triple blockade to quiet the spread and hopefully shrink some of the lesions. I will probably be rescanned in the spring. I will say that IMHO Myers lives up to his reputation as a heavyweight PCa oncologist and other members of my treatment team were blown away by the expertise and detail of the reports from Sand Lake Imaging.
