Than by logic - Two glasses of wine cuts your risk by 100%!

I averaged at least a glass of red wine a day for the last 15 years, did me no good, well may be if I had no wine my chances would have increased. How do you increase your chance by more than 100%? This makes about much sense as saying if you never fly you decrease your chances of dying in a plane crash by 50%.

and a whole bottle has to be the best for no PC, but liver cancer might get you.

It may be 50% against prostate cancer but it's 100% against anxiety ... at least while I'm drinking it!
And anxiety is BAD. ;)

I haven't had a drink, not even a sip, since 1973, and that plan sure didn't help my health, having dealt with 4 serious bouts of cancer since then. I take all those kind of "studies" as a source of amusement. Just too many exceptions to the alledged results.

Some reports say that beer is healthy in moderation. Personally, I sometimes take 16 IUs of a supplement called Yuengling Lagerol. It is one of the oldest and best.

Once upon a time we did some research, and it would be more like 90%, since some airplanes fall out of the sky onto the rooftops / cars of people who were not flying. Just one of those stupid discussions we got into when I was young, and co-workers were afraid to fly. I would remind them that they could die by airplane even if they never got on one. I am the eternal pessimist, and believe firmly that Murphy was an optimist.

The woman that wrote this must have access to some amazing research that the rest of the world has never seen...  I emailed her and asked where she got her information...   I thought this information was common knowledge by now.   The research on the link between red wine and prostate cancer risk was published in the Harvard School of Medicine’s publication titled, “Men’s Health Watch” nearly 5 years ago .   Since then, these results have been republished over-and-over again so many times that it seems almost surprising to hear that some people have not heard it by now…but ChrisR’s comment/question in this thread helps to validate the value & benefit of repeating the valuable PC/health information for the steady stream of newcomers & newbies who seek to educate and empower themselves to improve their longevity and well-being/quality of life.   There is a large body of evidence which points to the powerful positive influence that lifestyle factors (and specifically indicating the polyphenols and resveratrol in red wines) have on a man’s risk of prostate cancer, heart disease, pancreatic cancer, liver disease and others.   Despite this, it is important to point out, as the author of ChrisR’s article does , that while wine sounds like a miracle tonic, “…it’s not a cure-all for every disease.”   The 2007 research conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and published by Harvard specifically said that: “…men who drink an average of four to seven glasses of red wine per week are only 52% as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as those who do not drink red wine...   In addition, red wine appears particularly protective against advanced or aggressive cancers.”   To me (here’s where I offer my personal opinion), an interesting part of the results of an observations study such as this is speculations on what secondary influences also contribute to the end results, since the participants were not normalized for other factors .   Among the most widely speculated is the other environmental-related decisions made every day by men who “take care of themselves.”   To be more clear, w hat I mean by "take care of themselves" is that in general terms, someone who consumes red wine quite literally “for their health” also likely eschews the cancer-promoting Standard American Diet (S.A.D.), for example, and probably also exercises regularly.   There has been no effort in this study, however, to isolate those affects—it simply says that the group of people who consumed 4-7 glasses per week (plus whatever other lifestyle decisions they make) is less likely to be diagnosed with PC than those who do not (plus whatever other lifestyle decisions this group of men makes). I read a very interesting, very informative passage about the impact of environmental influences in the book, “ Anticancer:   A New Way of Life ” by Dr David Servan-Schreiber which I will share here.   Here Dr Servan-Schreiber discusses cancer patients who get involved in integrative medicine programs which includes various complementary steps to help stack the odds in their favor: “...By participating in certain programs...patients try to take charge of their cancer, to learn to live in greater harmony with their bodies and their past, to seek peace of mind through yoga and meditation, to choose foods that fight cancer while avoiding those that promote its development.  Their case histories show that they live two or three times longer than the average person with the same cancer at the same stage of development. An oncologist friend at the University of Pittsburgh, whom I told about these figures, objected:  "These aren't ordinary patients.  They're better educated, more motivated, and in better health.  The fact that they live longer doesn't prove anything."  But that is precisely the point :  If patients are better informed about their disease, if they look after body and mind, and if they are given what they need to improve their health, then they can mobilize the body's vital functions to fight cancer.  They live better and for longer.” [Underlining added by me for emphasis.]  That’s a great passage for all of us to internalize…

It was a Fox News Medical Team report, which featured prostate surgeon Dr David (offensive remark removed -142) , but it was in his capacity as a medical doctor/advisor to the program, and NOT as a prostate specialist, that he commented on the pros and cons of red wine.   In fact, there was absolutely no mention of prostate health or prostate cancer in the segment at all , and it wasn’t really worth watching.   The primary “issue” (con) discussed was the increased risk of breast cancer for women who drink excessively.   Not sure why this was posted in this forum. The only two comments (offensive remark removed -142) made which were of interest were that: ·          Resveratrol found in red wine is “ the secret to longevity ” ·          “ Probably in our lifetime we are going to see this secret pill [resveratrol] that is going to add to our life .” Other than those two interesting quotes, and the caution for women not to drink in excess, it wasn’t very newsworthy…as I mentioned in my earlier post in this thread, the powerful benefits of red wine/resveratrol are sorta old news. BTW, one of Dr (offensive remark removed -142) best quotes about diets, etc was this:  "Lifestyle choices are the best course of action in preventing prostate cancer or other disease"...although it did not come from the video link previously provided in this thread.  As I said, (offensive remark removed -142) video clip in this thread had absolutely nothing to do with prostate health or prostate cancer, and would have been better suited to be posted in a different forum.
