Hello all,
My husband and I are finally back home again after what seems like a lifetime. The Brachytherapy (15 rods) went well with very few problems. This was followed ten days later by 23 sessions of External Beam Radiation.
I was prepared for, and expected that there would be immediate side effects, but apart from some fatigue every now and then, and urinary urgency, it has been a straightforward couple of months. We had planned to do a bit of sightseeing while in the big smoke, but found that this was not readily possible due to the s.effects I just mentioned. However, we did not see this as a problem and merely enjoyed the atmosphere of the city and view from the unit we leased. We had a few walks and even dinners out with visiting friends and family.
Thank you to all of you who responded to my requests for suggestions regarding travel and preparation. We did the 8 hour drive in a couple of four hour bursts so this was quite an easy task. I felt better equipped to deal with any potential problems due to your many ideas and contributions.
I know that side effects can sometimes occur and linger well after the treatment, but is sure is a relief to have this part behind us.
So it's back to "normal" for a while, and we will just wait and see what the tomorrows bring. We have follow up appointments in September to see how things are progressing, but the Radiation oncologist stated that it would still be a little too early to determine the success of the procedures.
I was not always able to log on to this site while away, so I have quite a bit of catch up reading to do.
I hope you are all travelling well .....
cheers
