This weekend was "Blue Flag Weekend" for all high school football games here in Washington State. As you can see in the press release I've included below, this is the 5th year of this annual occurance. Fellow football officials put away their gold penalty flags and use blue ones, as one way we can increase awareness of prostate cancer and getting tested. I always talk to my officials of how important this is to me, being about
6 years after diagnosis.
Tonight, for the fifth consecutive year is BLUE FLAGS
presented by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Washington
officials Association. This WEEKEND throughout the state of Washington every
high school football official will use a BLUE penalty flag in replacement of
the traditional yellow flag as a way to raise awareness for prostate
cancer. One is six men will be diagnosed
with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and there are more cases of prostate cancer
annually than any other major cancer.
Getting checked and catching prostate cancer in its earliest stages is
critical. We encourage MEN to make an
appointment to see your doctor today.
