Dr. Bonkoff in Germany has been one of the pioneers in gene profiling of cancer to tailor treatments to the particular biology of the patient. In a recent review article, we can see his current thinking about
how PCa develops and responds to androgen deprivation therapy and radiation therapy. He outlines the pathways used by castrate-resistant PCa, and potential treatments to use under various situations. He even mentions some supplements that might be more useful with certain conditions.
After reading this article, I am finally convinced that I need to have my pathology slides reviewed before my next treatment decision. In fact, I should have had it done right away, at least before my adjuvant radiation therapy.
While this article is a review article, summarizing and drawing conclusions from numerous studies, it provides considerable food for thought, and certainly offers more hope than the generic treatment recommendations and suppositions given by most doctors.
