Well I am so sorry you are here, especially since your husband is very young for prostate cancer, I was 52 at diagnosis. He is younger. I was a psa of only 2.85, only 2 cores positive for prostate cancer, one 5%, the other 25% when I went to a surgeon for advice. He told me to go home for 6 months and think about
it. I said no, I was so paranoid about
cancer since my mother and father had both died of it, breast and colon, I said take it out now. 4 years later I have 0 psa but still use trimix for sex which is going to be the way it is for the rest of my life. I could have done AS, active survillence, or some form of radiation, but I just wanted the whole thing done with. I can live with my decision.
I realize your husband's psa is much higher than mine was, as is his number of positive cores. So his situation is totally different than mine was. I hope some of our members, such as Rufus or Ziggy or John T will chime in on your situation because they know a lot more about radiation, brachytherapy and other options to surgery. These guys can really guide you about your options. Just because he doesn't have surgery doesn't mean he can't have a long, normal and happy life. I use to think surgery was the be all, end all for prostate cancer, but now I know different. I'm not saying surgery isn't the way to go, but there are other options. Stay here and these guys can tell you a lot more than most doctors can, peace...............
