From all I've read lately, particularly about
some of the fats that are in general use now, as opposed to lard, schmaltz, and saturated oils like coconut and palm of yesteryear use, are actually worse for you. Even good old butter is better than all that oil formulated cr@p like margarine and can't believe it's not butter. And don't get me started on trans-fats.
And the thing that compounds these issues is sugar and processed wheat products. If you look at some of these "alternative" MD's, they're saying that the use of sugars in every packaged/processed good, along with the way that wheat has been changed to provide bigger yields, and the decades long fear of high cholesterol with the trans-fat and lack of saturated fats has had dire effects. Obesity, heart and cardio-vascular disease, and diabetes... seriously, I'm not big on conspiracies, but these dots connect pretty well.
