I guess I'm confused. Isn't that very convenient. It would seem with such a long trip, you would get to see two specialists. Then maybe stay at a hotel nearby overnight if the trip is too much.

(Or am I misunderstanding and the two doctors are not in the same place?)

we live in maui so we do some phone consults. if your doc in charleston isn't actually physically examining you, can you do a phone or skype consult? harold's docs are really good about this unless they actually must see him. we put the phone on speaker, and i take notes and occasionally chime in. works well for us.

Hello, my friend David!  We were out of town for a wedding and Ron wanted to know what is going on.  I am afraid this news is not what I want to hear - nor what he had hoped for.  That would be a miracle.  I don't know about your health system, but isn't there a service where you can have a health care worker who will provide transportation to and from the hospital?  I know we have it for low income people and for the elderly.  Sephie asked about the age and the beginning cut off is 55 years.  I don't know what your health insurance covers, but there must be someone who can help you in this area.  Maybe Peg knows or maybe you don't qualify?

It breaks my heart to read what you write.  Are you doing any writing towards your book?  Getting through that bout of flu sounded just awful!

With the kindness of your heart, you always inquire about Ron.  Briefly, his PSA came back 0.01. Whew!

Now he is having problems with his bottom lumbars and had an MRI done today.  He hopes he won't have to go through back surgery again!!  I am quite concerned as I see him taking pain pills and Tramadall. <SP  He fears he is getting hooked on them.  Maybe I can start a thread and get some response.

I have read every entry and can't believe a solution cannot be found.  I know Peg must also feel drained with everything.  She needs to take care of herself!  Please rest, and respond when you possibly can.  Prayers will continue!

mau - interesting ideas, but nothing like that has been offered. they think I can come that far with little or no notice on demand. doesn't work that way with me

aimzee - great report on ron's psa number, jealous but happy for him. we make way too much money for any programs like that, plus I know of no service that would provide transportation service that far away. I couldn't make the trip there and back in a single day, regardless of whom was driving. it just being in a vehicle that long that tears me up, not the actual driving part. I have to break it down in segments and get out of the car several times. plus use the heated seats on my back.

with ron's pain meds, as my doctor says, if the body is in severe chronic pain, classic addiction rarely happens, and it is the lesser of evils over having rampant pain taking over the body. sure hope he does well with his other issues, while keeping the cancer at bay.

can anyone post a link to corroborate this statement?  i am a recovering addict and i chair a weekly recovery and illness meeting and this would be great news that i would like to share.

Ed, I was just reading some info on Tramadol, and it is addictive and will need special withdrawal help.  Also, he takes Tylenol 4.  I asked if he told the doctor about that and he said no.  I am a loving wife and not a Mother Hen, but I can see changes in behavior.  He always tired, takes extra naps, doesn't play with the Grandbabes as much.  It hurts so bad when I see this.

Oops - this was supposed to be my NEW thread.  I don't start threads, but I hate to jump in on our wonderful friend's threads.  I am making typos because of nerves.  So sorry, gents.

Aimzee, why don't you start a new thread, rather my thread not be changed in topic, especially about drug issues. Plus I am not seeing some of the posters you are referring on my thread.

Aimzee, don't know if you've yet checked it out but the Chronic Pain forum may be a good place to learn more about living with pain meds. Watch the Tramadol and Tylenol...they both have acetaminophen which is notorious for causing liver damage. Take care.

Aimzee, that's great advice from Sephie. I belong to the Chronic Pain group, and these are normal conversations there, about our meds, etc.

we were never offered a phone consult - we just asked if it was possible. turns out harold's doc sees folks from all over the country so that is something they do periodically. maybe you could ask about a phone consult - can't hurt - all they can do is say no - and maybe if you explain your circumstances they will do it for you??

I agree with you, mau. I have to call the Charleston folks next week anyway, I will see if Dr. Keane can accommodate a phone consult. He has seen me in person, so its not like that would prove anything. Time is time, regardless. Good advice.
