Has anyone tried cabergoline for your PCa related ED? If you have, how did it work?

Cabergoline
(brand names Dostinex and Cabaser), an ergot derivative, is a potent dopamine receptor agonist on D2 receptors. In vitro, rat studies show cabergoline has a direct inhibitory effect on pituitary lactotroph (prolactin) cells.
It is frequently used as a first-line agent in the management of prolactinomas due to higher affinity for D2 receptor sites, less severe side effects, and more convenient dosing schedule than the older bromocriptine.
Can't say that I understand any of that... What have you read that it's suppose to do?

Here's an old link to a newspaper article that explains a bit on how it works. If you google carbergoline and Ed you can find scientific journal articles. I was interested if it helped any of the PCa guys who feel their libido has decreased since treatment.

I had a prostatectomy 5 yrs. ago and have a Titan implant for 2 and 1/2 years which is working great. I've lost some sensitivity in my penis from the prostatectomy i beleive. I am currently taking cabergoline for anorgasmia (taking too long to orgasm). It takes 45 minutes to an hour of sometimes intense stimulation to finally orgasm. Cabergoline is supposed to help with this and may also help to raise testosterone levels - (mine are low normal). It is also supposed to help raise libido. My uro is working with me on these problems. I just started taking (.5mg twice a week) last week. So give me a few weeks to see if I have any results to post.

djvictor,
Thanks for the post. I'd be very interested in how the carbergo line works for you. Good luck!

I've tried cabergoline. I can't say it did much. I haven't tried apomorphine (Uprima) yet. I did try pramipexole (another dopamine receptor agonist) but it just made me sleepy. The thing about
receptor agonists like this is your receptor profile is as individual as a fingerprint, so what works for one may not work for another. You just have to try it.

Cabergoline was 4 mg. As I recall, I titrated up to the full dose over a period of weeks. With the pramipexole, I titrated up too, starting with .125 tid. I think I got as high as .5 tid, before I felt too sleepy.

Another drug to keep an eye on is bremalanotide (currently finishing phase 2B clinical trials) from Palatin Labs. It is being investigated for Female Arousal Disorder in pre-menopausal women but, if approved, it will probably do a brisk off-label business with men since it appears to work equally well with both.
It has an interesting history. It started off as a topical tanning product (packaged in a cream base) and in testing almost all of the male volunteers reported that the stuff made them aroused. Further testing revealed it to be an aphrodisiac that operates on the central nervous system. The inventors have been trying to get it past testing for about
ten years. They started as a nasal spray but had to stop when it caused some subjects to experience blood pressure spikes. Now they are testing it as a subcutaneous injectable for women.
Late last year they reported that their phase 2b trials were going well and, I think, they are currently waiting for permission to start phase 3.

Just getting back on the cabergoline therapy for anorgasmia. I have been taking .5mg twice weekly since the begining of February. I don't feel it has helped very much. My libido seems to have improved slightly and I am reaching orgasm a little faster "sometimes". I'm going to cease taking it for awhile and see if I notice any change. I will keep you all posted. As far as the quality of the orgasm it is very intense when on my back or seated but not as intense in missionary. I find if I try to hold out as long as I can and then even some more, the orgasmic contractions are more intense no matter what position. I also think when I do my kegle exercises it helps.
