Nerve Recovery

Hello: If you read some of the posts & threads on this Forum, you will see that it takes time (more than we are lead to believe by our doctors) and improvement does occur after the 2 years time frame. The fact that you get 40% is indeed a good sign. Many have stated that Bimix or Trimix injections can significantly jump start the natural process. They seemed to have worked for me. I used the BiMix injections (and they are not bad at all) for 6 months and I firmly believe that it was just the boost that I needed. I am 25 months post daVinci and I am about 95% of presurgery capabiltiy and 5 mg. of Cialis gets me to pre-surgery levels. And remember, the more that you stress out about your ED, the more difficult it will be to get an erection! Good luck.

daVinci 7/2011: downgraded to Gleason 6, contained, 10% involvment, immediate urine control.
Now age 60, All PSA <0.15, next PSA test next week!

..I second the trimix, I'm on it too. The small prick is worth getting a big prick for an hour or two. Advise to see a doctor with ED experience they have a better understanding of the trimix dosage and administer procedures. Just do it and get some normal back in your life my PAc brother..

Yes, it can take OVER 2 years for the nerves to finally awaken and recover from the surgical trauma. I often refer to one guy either in this forum or another PC forum I belong to.

This guy posted that he had not had even a hint of an erection for several years after the surgery and had given up the thought of ever having a natural erection again.

Then, suddenly, he woke up one morning with a very hard erection. He was pleased but passed it off as some sort of fluke that would not happen again. But later that day another very hard erection formed and he realized he had finally completed his recovery.

And this was 3 years, 9 months after surgery!

So, no matter how hopeless it may seem, it can still happen even that long after surgery.

Resident of Highland, Indiana just outside of Chicago, IL.
July 2011 local PSA lab reading 6.41 (from 4.1 in 2009). Mayo Clinic PSA Sept. 2011 was 5.7.
Local urologist DRE revealed significant BPH, but no lumps.
PCa Dx Aug. 2011 at age of 61.
Biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma in 3 of 20 cores (one 5%, two 20%). T2C.
Gleason score 3+3=6.
CT of abdomen, bone scan both negative.
DaVinci prostatectomy 11/1/11 at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), nerve sparing, age 62.
My surgeon was Dr. Matthew Tollefson, who I highly recommend.
Final pathology shows tumor confined to prostate.
5 lymph nodes, seminal vesicles, extraprostatic soft tissue all negative.
1.0 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm mass involving right posterior inferior,
right posterior apex & left mid posterior prostate.
Right posterior apex margin involved by tumor over a 0.2 cm length, doctor says this is insignificant.
Prostate 98.3 grams, tumor 2 grams. Prostate size 5.0 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm.
Abdominal drain removed the morning after surgery.
Catheter out in 7 days. No incontinence, occasional minor dripping.
Post-op exams 2/13/12, 9/10/12, PSA <0.1. PSA tests now annual.
Semi-firm erections now happening 14 months post-op & VERY slowly getting a bit stronger.

We have one member who was using trimix and started to develop Peyronie's and his doctor treated the Peyronie's without stopping the trimix. Trimix does seem to help sometimes when recovery is sluggish. I think the member I am thinking of is bluebird123 and the actual patient is her husband. The doctor is John Mulhall at Sloan Kettering memorial in NYC.

Thanks for all the information. I am encouraged. This isn't the cruise any of us signed up for but it seems that we are on regardless!
