"Most clinicians have felt that 'more was better' when it came to blocking testosterone in prostate cancer patients, however, results for the specific endpoints we focused on, OS and DSS, indicate that this was clearly not the case," said Amin Mirhadi, MD, lead author of the study and a radiation oncologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. "This data supports administering less treatment, which will result in fewer side effects and reduce patients' overall health care costs."

The title is a little misleading. The report only references intermediate prostate cancer patients who have received long term HT vs those who received short term HT along with radiation.

If you agree with John T, why did you think it "best to leave it as reported" without even a comment? In fact, you drew out a quote from the article that encourages misinterpretation. To me, it's another example of irresponsible media sensationalism. The article itself isn't bad, but the headline's only purpose is to attract attention through controversy. I think we should stand against this sort of thing, rather than propagate it.

Ddonelson, I realize this is not your quote. I do, however, disagree with the authors. As is shown in my signature I made it 61/2 years on HT before needing to switch to Provenge. That's as a G9 with 12 positive cores. Thanks for the info even though I feel the study has some flaws . . .. Q

Yep, misleading title. See Quincy's comment; the study had nothing to do with men like him but, based on the title and the quote, it sounds like it does.

This is another study comparing long vs short term ADT for intermediate risk men undergoing radiation as primary therapy. If it defined "long" or "short" I read past it but it probably was talking about six months being as good as a year, or a year being as good as two. Something like that.

I began HT as part of my adjunct radiation treatment...This treatment has apparently failed, but my Medical Oncologist insists that continuing HT is useful in slowing down my cancer as much and as long as possible and that terminating it would be VERY counterproductive..I figured once you become hormone refractory, what's the use? But he assured me it was worth continuing and to make his point, added Casodex to the Eligard shot....Next PSA test in a week or so....

CONCLUSION:
Taken together, our data suggest that autophagy is a protective mechanism against androgen deprivation in HRPCa cells and that chloroquine could restore hormone dependence. This set of data could lead to the development of new therapeutic strategy against HRPCa.

Casodex plus Chloroquine

This study is only in vitro but I plan to take Chloroquine when my Casodex gets beaten...
