Results of Pathology Report / Freedom Cath removal

Here are my results:

1. All lymph nodes, seminal vesicles and margins are free of Ca. The weight of the prostate gland was 59.35 grams.

2. The carcinoma involved approximatley 10% of the examined prostate gland volume.  The carcinoma involved both the right and left lobes (apex through base) and has a modular diameter of 2.0 cm.....Gleason score updated to 4+3=7 with a tertiary Gleason pattern 5 Component.

3. Extracapsular Extension is present in the right anterior apex and the right anterior mid ?

4. Multifocal perineural invasion is identified ?

5. Tumor was a pT3a NO MX.

I'm not sure what 3 and 4 mean to me.  Have Ca cells migrated outside the capsule?

So far I've been dry but experiencing some burning when urinating.  I guess that's from the cath coming out.

you were able to go pee i the toilet without leaking from the minute they took the cath out? If so, outstanding.

Glad this is also behind you. next big step is that first PSA test.

Who went over the pathology report with you?

Dr. was very busy but spoke briefly talked about the report.........Didn't say too much except we're good to go until first PSA test.

Getting that cath out has got to be a big relief.

Too bad the Doc didn't have more time. He's correct - the first PSA test will tell the tale of whether this whole thing worked or if you need more treatment. #3 and #4 could be of concern but it's all speculation until that PSA test. It's very likely that it won't amount to much other than some notes on a piece of paper.

I'd say, don't worry about it for now and just focus on healing and living life for awhile.

Keep us updated and do let us know how the PSA test goes.

Berk,

Congratulations on the clear margins, seminal vesicles and lymph nodes.

#3 means that the tumor caused a bulge in the prostate capsule in the front, from the middle to the bottom. There's a possibility that the tumor may have spread from there into the prostate bed, but the fact that the margins were clear reduces that likelihood.

#4 means that bits of tumor were in and around the area inside the prostate that the nerves run through. Although it is common (I've read about 2/3 of men have it) and usually portends nothing, it is another possible area of escape, so they mention it on the path report.

You will only know if PC cells are outside of the capsule if your PSA rises or doesn't become undetectable.

Wow! Dry from the get-go. That must be a relief. My catheter comes out in a few hours and I'll be going with the flow....

Berk, I like you had Extra Prostatic extention but clear margins. My Gleason was higher than yours (4+4). I hope your PSA test will be undetectable.
