Two years post open RP...

At 42, the diagnosis of cancer was sobering. Worrying about how to provide for two kids under 5 and with another bun in the oven when I was diagnosed was more sobering and frightening still, particularly if the diagnosis were to change to something beyond the initial G6. I was lucky that my stats stayed the same with the post-op pathology.

I'm now 44 with three kids, 6, 4, 21 months. Busy as he11... in the best ways.

Had my yearly physical, where my yearly PSA is done, a week ago. .01. Wasn't "worried" but I wanted the results so I wouldn't "worry." If you know what I mean.

I don't come around often anymore, but when I do, I'm glad to see ChrisR and davidg still holding the line for us younger guys. ChrisR posts excellent articles, both academic and mainstream, for men in their 40's with G6 prostate cancer. They, and he, helped me tremendously steel myself to what was happening, while gaining the knowledge and confidence that everything would work out. If you're new here, I would suggest you look for his posts. We both had our surgery at Hopkins.

My surgeon/uro says he doesn't need to see me anymore. All he needs is my yearly PSA. "If you have any questions call me. Move on, man. You'll be fine." I'm glad to accommodate him.

Thank you since you have made my day! 3 kids and a loving wife it doesn't get better than that. 1 of the reasons that I'm on this forum is to support you "young squirts". Enjoy changing diapers on Xmas day with NO fear from PCa..

Well, thanks for the well wishes and kind words from all.

The kids are, indeed, wonderful. Two daughters, 6 and 4, and the youngest 21 months a boy. He's a bruiser. Has no fear, which scares me, and is perpetual motion. Leaves little time for his parents to be concerned with anything else. I am a lucky and fortunate man.

golfnooch, SE's are non-existent. I never dribble unless I push some gas. And with half a viagra I can manage well enough to get the job done for both the wife and myself. I also have decent results with nothing, but so as not to worry about the "performance," I chew up a half of pill about 10 minutes prior to action. I can't complain.

What a wonderful post to read!  And all the best to you with your next 50 years cancer-free.  It is a safe bet that scores of young men with prostate cancer will eventually read this post and be hugely encouraged by it, whether they ever post a message.  

You are right, Chris R and David G have shared some excellent articles and papers about young men diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Enjoy your young family, stop by here now and then as you can, and remember that you never have to worry about that scourge of aging men--BPH!
