Hey Friends,
Some good news, 6 week post RALP PSA came back <.01
Quick question, why would my Sadist....errrr my Urologist need to do a DRI after RALP. He hasn't done it yet but I have been promised it is on the way after an appointment or two.
Seems like if there was anything for him to feel, it would have shown up in the PSA first.
Dang I hate that thing.
Best wishes for all.
Brewer.

Congrats and welcome to the ZERO Club. I hope you know that your membership dues is to buy the round of drinks. :)
Some of the Uro's do a DRE at every visit. The Dr that did mine always did one my new Uro said He has not use to do one. :)
I like his thinking.
Again Congrats.. Hope you have a lifetime of zeros.

My uro hasn't done it since surgery, but my GP wanted to so he could check for lumps despite the undetectable PSA. I told him he needed to buy me dinner first

For post prostatectomy guys.
You know when you need to find a new doctor when he/she does a DRE and said everything feels okay!

Congratulations on the great start of what will hopefully will be forever zero PSA. Some Uros do a DRI after RALP although mine doesn't.

It is 8 weeks since the radical op, my Uro informed me that my psa has dropped from 19 to 0.3 ....should it be 0?. I urinate like a fire hose and then cut off, but then the dribbling starts, going through 2 pads per day none overnight.

Hi misty, - At 8 weeks after RP, it would normally be expected that the PSA would be be "undetectable", which is, most often, clinically defined as LESS THAN 0.1 (<0.1 ng/ml). If the next one is not there, most would suggest that you need further follow-up.
Ask for a copy of the Laboratory Report and verify that what you thought you heard is actually what was reported. Are you sure that it was not .03 rather than 0.3 as you understood and/or that it was not preceded by a "<" icon (less than)? If truly the 0.3, you should be more closely monitored and may wish to have another PSA at 3 months post-op, to confirm the accuracy of the 8 week test result. Best regards! - John@newPCa.org (aka) az4peaks

Dr Samadi tells us that he does a DRE because he said when cancer returns you can sometimes feel ridges in that area, so they are looking for that as a possible sign of recurrence.
