Prostrate Cancer Survivors

I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in 1997 with a PSA of 73 ... just one year after getting a PSA reading of 2+. When a biopsy showed that cancer cells were in every core sample I chose radiation because I knew they would have to cut the prostrate into pieces to remove it (and chances of losing cancer cells into my abdomen were substantial). Radioactive seeds were a new option but extremely powerful then.

After months of radiation (all I could endure) and 16 years of Lupron shots and Casodex pills they both stopped working, so I stopped ALL TREATMENTS in January, 2013.

My PSA as of January 7, 2014 is 37+ (a fraction of a point higher than when I quit treatments, but I thank the Lord that I'm still LIVING and will LIVE until I die.

Welcome to Healing Well...that is quite a length of time for Lupron to work though....many other newer drugs out there these days....

ByyGeorge, thanks for posting. Sorry to hear your situation seems to be worsening a bit, but you're actually quite encouraging for some of us just starting down that road.

16 years of success on Lupron/Casodex is really something. I'm on it for 3 years, and chafing at that idea.

It's wonderful to hear of Gleason 9 cases with long survival. There's so much gloom and doom associated with that diagnosis that it's really great to hear from someone beating the odds by a huge margin!

Lupron is still working even though PSA is increasing. Your choice whether you want to enjoy Lupron-free living, which I fully understand.
