Welcome Paluxy Kid to the forum; sorry you need to be here but glad you found us. You've already found this is a wild ride, I'm sure!

This thread is for the members here to give you more direct feedback by carrying your conversation here. (I ran across the first post on the Gleason 9 thread, quoted here). Stay with us, Kid. Ask, vent, whatever, we're here for you!

This is my first post, I have been reading for a few days, was diagnosed in January, psa at 30, biopsy came in at 12 of 12. Gleason 9 in four, 4-5s, some 8s and one7, one6. 100% in most and a couple of 95% and one 10%. Started HT and have had my first visit wed. with rad. oncologist to schedule nuclear option that is no longer an option, am expecting a spectacular blast zone. I'm 58, live in Texas, married, with children and grandchildren. When this came as a result of a yearly checkup, I was like most, very new to this world. It doesn't scare me yet, maybe that will come later, I've just decided to roll with it and take it on the best I can. I know there will be bad days and good ones. I'll get a better signature together soon. Mine as you know is aggressive, rated thankfully though at t2c. I hope to converse with many of you, good luck and give her hell.

Welcome, but so sorry you have to be here. You'll HW, a great group of guys and their wives, are always willing to help and give great advice.

Redwing57 said it correctly! Wild Ride for sure and that it has been for me.

Since being DX Oct. 1, 2012, I've spent hundreds of hours searching, reading and taking some great advice. One of several great books to read, one by Dr. Patrick Walsh; Guide to surviving Prostate Cancer (third edition-June 2012).

Everyday, I pray for Healingwell families and keep them in my thoughts.

Great site and don't know what I've done without them.

A few weeks ago, my wife and I met Redwing57 and his wife for dinner just east of Bartlett (where we live in the Memphis, TN area).

Several times a year, (we haven't been to a meeting yet), we have group meetings (one going on this weekend in FL, hosted by Sonny and his wife). Yesterday, I had a Lumbar Epidural (nerve block on my lower back), and in May, taking our two younger grandkids to Rhode Island, so, we couldn't make this meeting. Hoping to make the Rochester, NY meeting this Sept.

Hello Paluxy and welcome to Healing Well. You obviously have been hit with some serious PCa and I'm really sorry for that. My recommendation would be to seek out an experienced prostate cancer oncologist to help you thru this. There are many options and an expert can help you.

I thought a wife should welcome you to HW. My husband and I are pretty new here also but I can already tell that "we are all in this together". Lots of opinions that really make me think which I appreciate.

Paluxy, Just want to offer my welcome to HW. I'm just a little over a year ahead of you and started on HT CAB (Combined Androgen Blockade using Lupron/Casodex) with a very good initial response, but unfortunately only got 6 months or so out of this 1st line of treatment. Many folks here have done much better than that. I have since joined a clinical trial at NIH,as you can see in my signature. At the end of this month I get a series of scans to see if these drugs are working. In addition to the trial I was also fortunate to get Dr. Myers on my team, whom for now is just monitoring my trial progress, and any other health issues. Still lots of treatment options available, whenever they might be needed.

Lisa, I have not had time to post recently, and I must have missed you're initial post, so my welcome to you as well.

Best advice I can give is to keep educating yourself about this disease, and the treatment options available, as you will be you best advocate.

Hey adjust - man, sorry to see your numbers aren't doing better than they are. Here's hoping the trial does well for you. I'm sure you've been looking into other things like Provenge and so on. Are there further options in your pipeline? Dr. Myers is a great addition to your team! We think about you often.

Lon, we're certainly friendly here (for the most part!). My numbers were fairly similar to yours too, and it sounds like we had a similar thought process. My urologic oncologist (UO) was not much in favor of surgery, though willing to do it. He could barely make eye contact during our "what to do" consult with all the info, since the situation was a bit bleak. The surgery would be a "wide excision", without "luxury things" like nerve sparing and so on. The side effects would be immediate and significant, with virtually certain immediate and permanent ED with a significant risk of complete incontinence. The 3T MRI I had indicated cT3, though my UO was kind of equivocal about it being cT2b/cT3. The radiologic oncologist clearly thought it to be cT3. We went with IGRT and androgen deprivation with both Lupron and Casodex before, during, and after RT, continuing for 3 years.
