Taking the summer off from cancer

I have decided that although I am forced to have monthly oncology visits due to the potential liver problems caused by Zytiga that beginning tomorrow until the end of summer my blood work will not include a monthly Psa test. I am in remission and I will not go through Psa anxiety every singe month this summer. I am going to spend this summer with the mind set that I am cancer free. I will resume ps testing in the fall. I don't know how my doctor will feel about this but I really don't care. He will simply have to get over it. Yolo

Wonderful, applause for you and 100% agreement!

My next PSA check is scheduled now for November (just went to 6 month intervals), and other than trying to help folks here I'm putting it out of my mind too. Living with ADT side effects is unfortunately a constant reminder, but I can choose not to dwell on it. At least until November, I'm fine!

I think your plan is a great one. I have subscribed to that plan myself many times over the last 4 years. Doing so allows you to approach ever day as the bonus it is and lets you just go out and choke the life out of each day.

Sounds like a great plan Todd. Enjoy your summer. Got my PSA yesterday and it was .03 after taking Eligard last October and continuing to take Casodex. Hope to meet you in Sept. as well.

I just left the doctors office. To my surprise my doctor thought it was a wonderful idea that I took the entire summer off from PSA testing. He said that with my numbers virtually undetectable it's pointless to continue testing on a monthly basis. On the flip side of the coin my blood pressure has been creeping up a little higher almost every single month and it looks like I will soon be put on blood pressure medication. Hypertension is one of the side effects of Zytiga. Judging by my past history it is only natural for me to experience every single side effect that a medication has to offer. My liver function continues to be right through the uprights. I guess I'm doing good. The warm sun of the Caribbean is three weeks away. Maybe a week of relaxation will have a positive effect of my blood pressure. Todd
