Other thread is getting long, wanted to get out this update while I am still posting here:
Was up all night prepping for the colonoscopy and upper test, you all know what that means. Finally got to sleep about 5 AM, then had to get up at 6. Wasn't a happy camper.
Gastro Clinic was huge, felt like I was at a major airport waiting room, lol. So many people/family members packed out waiting for early morning tests.
Other than excessive "holding time" waits, the procedures went well. What ever they finally put in my IV, worked within 5-10 seconds. I remember sensing a weird smell in the oxygen tubes in my nose, and a cold sensation in the IV, then it was like instant, "Mr. Riley, wake up.", gently. All over with. Took about 45 minutes to do both.
No results instantly, but a couple of concerns from my doctor. It was only 20 months ago that I had my first colonoscopy, and they removed quite a few polyps then. He said due to my cancer history, I need to do this every 2 years (the first gastro doctor), so this was good timing.
In that short a time, they found new and additional polyps, which the new doctor said they need to look at closely, as that was real quick return time for polyps. Also, they took 4 different areas of biopsy material. Said stomach lining was really enflamed. And they took 2 samples from colon, and 1 from somewhere else, can't remember.
Should have biopsy results early next week hopefully. Based on what he saw, he's ordering CAT scans of my colon, stomach, and believe it or not, my lungs again (just had lung x-rays done 3 weeks ago or so).
He wouldn't tell my wife what he was thinking or looking for, said for us to patiently wait for the test results. Not reading anything into this, but glad in a way, that he's seeing something. I expected him to say, oh, there's nothing going on.
He said the next step would be on the follow-up after all the results are in. So while it doesn't curb the on going problem, least we are getting somewhere forward. Just takes patience, something I have plenty of.
He was disturbed that there was no improvement on the hunger/appetite issue. Due to timing, and how they spread this prep out over 2 full days in advance, I hadn't eaten a bite in over 65 hours until we got home from the hospital today. My wife fixed me a bowl of Cream of Wheat (with lots of sugar), the way I like it, but rarely ever eat. Even after 65 hours, still didn't have even the slightest tang of hunger. Only ate, because I needed something on so empty a stomach.
It gave me cramps, of course, but it stayed in me, so that was at least something.
Be interesting what they find out in the end, just hope its nothing too serious lurking beneath the surface. My greatest fear is having to end up with a colostomy one day, on top of already having an Urostomy. But we are nt there yet by a mile. Will have to wait and see.
