Well my biopsy results are in.

cancer T1C gleason7

psa 7

free psa 5

Age 53

Gonna have surgery

Hello usnretired,

Do you have a good surgeon in mind? Is it going to be robotic or open? Where do you live? With your results it looks like you have time to shop around.

Not the news you wanted.

With those numbers, surgery has the possibility of knocking it all out.

Surgery isn't fun and normal will change but you'll get through it.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dx.

Your intermediate risk PC gives you time to shop around for doctors. I hope you have read the sticky Newly diagnosed with PC? read this sticky first

And I hope you have followed the recommendation there to get a second opinion on the biopsy slides from Bostwick or Epstein - it can make a difference.

Good luck with your interviews and let us know as things progress.

You'll do fine. surgery is well understood and successful if done by an excellent surgeon, but like me you may be more than t1c post op which surgery cannot always cure. Good luck and report back!

As one old sailor to another, though I only did four years, I think you'll do fine. I was diagnosed at 56 - T3b- and am doing very well now a dozen years later. Best of luck.

When I came to this forum I read a bunch of signatures, researched some, and talked to as many people as possible who went through this grief. OK, Cyberknife or Robotic surgery here I come. Than, I started to really listen to those on this board who could offer life saving advice. But more importantly, "quality of life after treatment"!

You do have time to make a decision that represents the rest of your life.

If you choose surgery, especially robotic, the skill of the surgeon is critical. I was lucky enough to have family in the medical field who pointed me to the best. While there are never "sure things" choosing the doctor you are comfortable with is something you can control. Settle for nothing less than the best.

Sorry to hear the news NAVY, these Brothers helped me tremendously over the past 8 months. I'm 0.04 as of this past Thursday and almost dry. Working on the ED now, put it off until after I got a handle on the incontinency. I'm Retired Air Force, Combat Security Forces, and am 53 years young too! Be aggressive, do your research, I was a T1c and G 6 after my 2nd biopsy, but there was no question as to my mission. Da Vinci in Syracuse, New York on 8 January 2014 with Dr. David Albala, formerly of Duke University. One of his former students happened to be my Urologist in New Hartford, New York, who aggressively found my cancer on the 2nd try. You're in Great Hands here, research, pre-plan, and don't hesitate on your decision. My healing was very slow, suffered tremendous depression, because I DID NOT LISTEN TO MY SURGEON OR UROLOGIST! Senior NCO and Alpha Male mentality almost got the best of me. Expected to be up and ready for Combat again at 2 weeks post op... Don't let this happen to you.
