Just received a call from Radiation Oncologist (Tennessee) office cancelling the lab and injection appointments for this month (October), hate that this is happening.....missing the 3rd injection. Husband has been waking up every morning lately with his back hurting, hope this interruption won't interfere with husband's progress.

Either one of you guys hear or know about "a shortage" or anyone else hear of this problem?

For sometime there have been reports of significant shortages of cancer treating drugs. I haven't heard of any specific to PCa like you report. I would suggest you check around with other treatment centers and oncologists for availability. Also call your insurance company and find out what their experience is.

I just did a quick internet search and didn't find anything about shortages including looking at the Xofigo website.

It could be that your oncology group has run out of their supply and are awaiting an order. At the significant expense of these drugs, most clinics use a "just in time" supply system to keep their inventory costs down. If that is the case I would check with other oncological groups to determine whether another clinic has a more reliable supply. I can imagine few things worse in treatment than being cancelled due to low inventory.

I have called the Xofigo number listed on their web site (855-696-3446), spoke with a representative, Dawn, who verified that Bayer is experiencing a shortage of up to 2 weeks or could be beyond.

Hoping that this will not be a major "set back" for husband's future progress, because prior to the first injection, we were in a very, very "dark place" and expecting the worst.....

I received an email from Malecare stating that Xofigo has temporarily been pulled from the market due to
"contamination" of supply. The special notice stated that this contamination does not effect those that have already received Xofigo...as those batches tested fine. Only applies to that which had not been distributed.
