Just found this excellent eBook (pdf) by the European Association of Urology 2011 (see www.uroweb.org/gls/pdf/08_Prostate_Cancer.pdf

I think its a must read for those just starting out on this "adventure" (perhaps it could be added to the list 'read this thread first'

What people must remember though is this was written by UROLOGISTs and as such has a UROLOGY (think surgeon) bias. Another frustrating style in the document is each section has its own reference section. Apart from all my little gripes its a good read.

Okay- Question.... Page 88 of that.... Says a contraindication for LHRH therapy alone is are patients with metastatic disease at high risk for flare up phenomenon..... Wait that's Paul... that is what he is on.... Just Lupron....

NCCN just published its 2015 Physician guidelines. This defines the standard-of-care at many of the top tertiary care hospitals in the US. I've only quickly perused it.

Among the major changes to the 2014 edition: They've endorsed mpMRIs for Active Surveillance, the use of new PET radiotracers, endorsed docetaxel for high volume mHSPC, and added a very comprehensive section for CRPC. I'll comment if I see anything else that is radically different. The more user-friendly revised patient version should be out soon.

Tall Allen- that link brings you to a page to log in... I think you have to be a medical professional to qualify based on the questions, but I was able to use my credentials. Shall we save it as a pdf and put up somewhere that laymen on here can see, or to send to those who would like it? Is that even allowed?

Paul and I are deep in the one posted above from the UK at moment....

Thanks for alerting me. I uploaded the pdf a couple of days ago to the pc advocates site. I edited the link in my post above - it should work. I wouldn't bother with guidelines published in 2011 - these things change quickly.

Thanks, can you post link to the PC advocates site? Lost it when my PC crashed need to go there more often.

The guidelines have changed but we are finding it written in easy to understand terms for Paul (I think most reading he has done on subject- he usually relies on me) and some great references in there to look up more information.

Its nice to see him intent on learning and having open discussion with it.
