Xofigo---2nd Month injection

Hi folks,
Today was my,obviously, second shot of Radium 223 or Xofigo. I just hope that this month goes as well as the first one. I have had no observable SEs at all. No nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea which pleases me to no end. My MO and I decided to lower my pain meds to help keep from masking anything on the palliative front. My PSA dropped slightly, from 122.7 to 114.6.

I'm still on HT, next month's shot of Lupron will mark my 8th year of tri- yearly shots. It will be I teresting to see if the two drugs do anything about speeding up my PSA drop as it has been on a slow rise for 18 months now. I realize that Xofigo is a palliative drug but in my case the RO is using it more as a proactive one. He feels that there is a chance of nipping the bone mets before they have a chance to develop. As of my last Bone scan, 8 months ago, I showed clear. I'll update this as the treatment goes on for those of you contemplating this procedure . . . Q

You aren't kidding about the fortunate lack of SEs . . . I was all prepared for six months of praying to the porcelain goddess but I feel like they just shot me full of saline. Our local Cancer center is so on the ball, I just love them. When the special delivery truck with the radium 223 was late they called me up to let me know so that I wouldn't have to wait around all afternoon for it to show. Is that considerate or what? It worked out fine as it was only 1/2 hour late but still, the thought is what counts . . . Q

Good news on all fronts, no noticeable side effects. potentially a PSA decline, more than just palliative.

Our collective knowledge on Xofigo is rather small and you are adding to it.

2006 LRP First post surgery PSA 11.8 Stage IV Start Lupron
2010-2014 Casodex, Provenge, Nilandron, Zytiga, Orchiectomy, Xtandi.
PSA cont rise. Spot on spine & enlarged lymph nodes.
2014 Xgeva & Taxotare
10/31/2014 Last Taxotare due to SE’s PSA was 14.82 now 1.3
2/27/15 PSA 10.48
3/20/15 PSA 13.68 Multiple lesions found in liver
3/27/15 Start Jevtana w prednisone Neulasta 24 hrs after chemo

Q, Well there was a rise but his psa had been consistently rising for 3 years pre Provenge and from what we'd read we weren't looking for the treatment to lower his PSA but to boost other treatments that would be used. How will we know that? I don't have an answer but we believe it has helped overall.

Quincy; how are you doing? When is your 3rd treatment for xofigio? Dave gets his pre labs tomorrow and the injection itself on Tues. We dropped the Hydromorph down to 18mlg x2 times a day and will give it 2 weeks and see if he can reduce that again. Still so shakey in the hands and still so breathless its scary .The psa went back up by 505 points to 2,800 last week. I know the xofigio doesn't really do anything for psa and we were lucky to get a couple of drops in psa from it. Well keep us posted on how you are doing. Hello to Connie as well..Sue
