Kidney Issues -- any insights?

Yesterday's blood tests did reveal some renal issues:

my kidney situation is:

BUN at 26 (upper limit is 20)
Creatinine at 1.3 (upper limit is 1.25)
EGR is 55 (lower limit is 60)


My local doctor said they will watch it, very slight concern.

However, this happened last time I was on HT.

We ended up stopping the metformin and the fosamax and the problem did clear up.

I'm stopping that now, unilaterally, and I'll discuss it with Dr. Lam next week.

Have any of you had such issues?

no but i like your style " Im stopping that now" and will discuss with doc later. oh would, that all were there. Compiler, you ain't dying of Pca. You have many miles{and worries} to go before you sleep, my friend. Plenty of time to take many roads.

My issues have been kidney stones. Seems that all the calcium I'm taking (prescribed) is causing them, but I have to take it to counter the impact of Lupron.

I've developed a new understanding of pain.

Drink lotsa,lotsa, water, 142. If incontenence is an issue… a choice needs to be made. Yep another choice… Its good to have choices, in my view.

Sorry in advance, if you'ver already covered this, but did your kidney troubles (in terms of the creatine number specifically) arise together with a PSA rise?

My dad'd latest kidney troubles (which first appeared as high creatine numbers: 1.9 in 12/14) were correlated with a recurrence of lymph node mets in the kidney area, that had grown large enough to block the urethra and threaten his one kidney.

He's now on aggressive ADT3, plus a kidney stent, which have so far averted any further trouble. PSA has been dropping since 12/14, albeit the drop has slowed down as it reaches 1.0.

So, if PSA is also rising, might be a good idea to check for lymph nodes in the area.

If I misread your original post, and this comment is totally not relevant to you, then I apologize. Just wanted to share our recent kidney-related experience.

PSA has declined significantly.

This happened before (this is my second stint on HT).

Last time, we stopped metformin and fosamax, and kidney function returned to normal. I assume it is the same thing this time.

I agree with your local doctor. Keep a careful watch .... Something is going on .... But what? Could be the drugs. Could be unrelated to the drugs.

Although your values are slightly out of range, they are not off the chart. I would liken them to having a PSA of 0.05 after a RLP.

But then I am not a doctor .... just a guy who once had slightly high creatinine. After I retired, I began to exercise more, I lost weight and changed my diet. The numbers came down and are now just within the range.

Actually, checking my wife's notes (she took the message from my doctor's office), they did say the numbers were very slightly off.

I then checked with a friend who is a retired ER doctor and he said the same thing.

Anyway, as I said earlier, I've stopped metformin and fosamax for the moment. I will discuss it with Dr. Lam on Tuesday afternoon.
