So I called the doctors office to inquire into the availability of generic Viagra and generic Cialis.
The nurse I spoke with told me they are both available.

So I went to Walmart to inquire about the pricing of generic Viagra and generic Cialis. The pharmacist
told me that the generic versions are not available yet.

What is the real story on this?

The patent for Cialis runs out in the US in 2017, at which point it will be available in generic form, and possibly even over-the-counter (OTC). http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/29/business/eli-lilly-takes-step-toward-making-cialis-an-over-the-counter-drug.html

I just paid $130 for 3 pills. That was with insurance. Luckily, I am okay with a half dose, although the manfacturer tries to make that difficult by making them teardrop-shaped.

Talk to your urologist about a generic alternative to viagra. My understanding is it is the dosage is different, and that's the loophole, 20mg vs 100, so you have to take 5 of them but at around a dollar a pill, who cares! My PCP has told me about them too, and they both indicate the results have been favorable, with same or similar side affects.

As soon as my daily Cialis runs out, this is what I'm switching to.

Sildenafil is the one you want to ask about. UROs can prescribe it for off-label use for ED. Last year Kaiser removed Viagra from use and replaced it with 5 sildenafil tabs. Does the same thing and costs me a lot less. In my case a 20mg tab is plenty so I am not having to cut pills.

Walmart was correct. Cialis and Viagra "as is" do not yet have generics for the ED area. As others mentioned, there is a generic (Sildenafil) used in another condition, but you'd likely have to pay it out of pocket even with a prescription.

The issue for insurance is that if you have not been diagnosed with the ailment that the generic is approved for, you "don't have a medical need", so they don't feel a requirement to pay / provide a negotiated price. It sounds like some insurance companies are willing to let them get through, but mine sure is not one.

Viagra has come off patent in OZ. Its now $30 for 12X100mg. It used to be $80 for 4 x 100Mg. Cialis is still "on" patent till much later.

Viagra got their patent extended so they could continue to put the stiff one to us. had Viagra gone generic the others would have been forced into realistic pricing.

Many here (myself included) use generic tadalifil or sildenafil ordered online & mailed to our home via US Postal Service. Best I recall from my last order it was under $0.50 per pill.
