well tendonitis in my elbow has gotten the better of me. As a result of too many years on the computer, my RSI elbow and forearm feel like they are on fire. It actually hurts to type and click the mouse.
It's happen to me before and I've let myself over do on the computer and writing lately.
Only real treatment is rest, plus ice, advil, and physical therapy.
All that means I won't be on-line much in the next few weeks (yes, it takes weeks to over come).
So if your PSA is down know I'd say, "congratulations." Know if your PSA is up know I'd say, "That sucks." I've leave it up to you folks to help the newbies out with information, encouragement and hope.
I am sure I could blame all this on PC if work at it, but it hurts to type that all out.
If you need me, you'll find me near the ice maker with my arm in a bucket of ice water.
Peace,
Andrew

There is an art to proper arm and wrist height etc
I would suggest Google...but that might hurt too much.

Andrew, my Mac has a system preference file called "dictation and speech." Maybe your computer has a similar function. I dictated this with it and just corrected the punctuation.

Have a good rest, Andrew. The forum won't be the same without your presence while your tendonitis heals... Tim

We've all heard of "tennis elbow," so now we've got "computer elbow" as well?
More seriously, I myself had a bad time with carpal tunnel syndrome at work a few years ago before I retired. But being a unit head at the time I was able to pull rank a bit and got my department chair to loan me some keyboarding hours from one of our temp staffers, and she did all my keyboard typing for me for a while. Then, with rest, the CTS finally eased up enough for me to resume my own typing duties.
My point: we don't often stop to think about
it, but our computers do indeed take a physical toll on us, more than we probably realize much of the time. Then we wind up with messed-up wrists, elbows, etc. One of the prices we pay for the wonders of automation?
But I guess we better get used to it. I don't think computers (and their keyboards) are going to fade away anytime soon.
Or, maybe we can start using voice-keyboard-interfaces, as Tall Allen suggests above. Of course then we'll probably have to start dealing with something called computer-interface-hoarse-voice syndrome, resulting from all our yapping at our computers all the time! <grin>

Rest has been working some.
L: Celebrex, can't take it. Affects my BP badly.
S: I get a ergonomic review of me workstation every year from a good ergo consultant. Doesn't help over use.
A: I've tried it, but the cats hear me talking and start meowing. Confuses the software. ;)
P: Thanks
A10: Thanks
T: Thanks
81: actually it's the same injury on the same tendon. weird, but true.
As of today the pain has stopped, but except for working, I am not spending much time at the computer.

I'm sure you have tried this, but I had tennis elbow symptoms a couple of times and was able to treat it with exercises and they worked for me. I don't remember all of them but the two that helped the most were doing wrist curls with a can of anything (beer would probably work, then you have a treat when your done) or a light weight, both with your palm up and you palm down. The other was putting a rubber band or two around your fingers and thumb when they are together and then spreading your fingers and thumb out.

With rest and the whole protocol, my arm is getting better. It no longer hurts to type, but I've got limit myself for awhile longer until I can have a few more days of PT exercises going.
Gleason 6: I've gone to the physical therapist who gave me all those exercises. I was told not to do them while the arm was in pain, so today was the first day I've been able to start doing the exercises. Oddly enough, I was told not to use any weight on the curls for two weeks. The PT suggested a soda can, but I think she wouldn't might if I substituted beer.
Hum, speaking of beer,
Later
Andrew
