I hope I’m on the right web site because I don’t know any other one to go to. about 2 weeks ago inside my anus was hurting like my guts wanted to fall out and the rectal exam at the ER didn’t hurt. Two or three days later my prostate was hurting me. I’ve had prostate trouble since I was 20 years old and now I’m 68. about a week later I again went to the ER and they did a rectal exam and again it didn’t hurt. My insides which feel like my prostate is hurting and the urine test came out good. I feel like I’m dying and don’t know what’s wrong. Has anyone else experience this? Also this was done at the VA hospital. If I depend on the VA I might end up dead before they figure out what is wrong with me. I’m thinking about getting part F at medicare and does anyone know anything about this?

Hello,

Have you had a colonoscopy recently? Not sure what is causing your pain, but hopefully you can find some docs to get to the bottom if it.

Yeah, go to a gastro doc.

I have part F with Blue Cross, Blue Shield which is the predominate carrier in my area.

Love it, like a Gold card of some sort. Never have had to pay anything other than prescriptions.

Anything medicare pays, part F picks up the balance. If medicare doesn't pay, part F doesn't pay.

I agree, head to a gastro next.

We are not doctors, I am new here, but even so that really isn't the sort of thing I have seen many posters talking about having problems. May well be prostate related, may well not.

Prostate generally constricts urine flow, blood in urine, etc.

open enrollment started October 15 for medicare, if you enroll now doesn't go into effect until Jan 1.

I think you're going to need help before then.

I had a colonoscopy 6 years ago and it was good so I should ask my provider if I should have another one? I have an appointment for a Medicare urologist in one week so I'm wondering if that is the right doctor to see? Because I have no pain with a rectal exam so should I cancel the urologist and see a gastroenterology doctor? The VA is suppose to get me an appointment with a urologist but when, god only knows. Maybe just see both, I only have one life. I have a hard time with decisions.

Proctalgia fugax

Is a severe, episodic, rectal and sacrococcygeal pain. It can be caused by cramp of the levator ani muscle, particularly in the pubococcygeus.

It most often occurs in the middle of the night and lasts from seconds to minutes.



I've been here many times and it's not fun. Not much you can do about it either.

Can you start with your family doctor or a general doctor that can guide you through this? I don't have much experience in the VA system. Does sound GI though.

I'm in the VA medical system for primary care. Ask your care team for a referral to a GI doc.

I'm going to take your advice and make an appointment with a Medicare family doctor who can lead me through this to the right doctors. If I depend on the VA I'll be dead by the time they figure out what is wrong with me and going though Medicare I can get this done about 4 times faster which might give me 4 times less pain which is what I'm having now. I figure it's got to be a urologist, proctologist, gastroenterologist, or whatever the family care doctor says. Thanks
