I am new to this site. My husband was dx with PC in 2014. It was contained. He received external beam radiation, brachytherapy, and has been on Lupron for over a year. He suffers from severe joint and muscle pain. His Drs say it has nothing to do with the Lupron shots and he has been sent to a Rheumatologist who can find no reason for the pain. He is on Tramadol now for pain but it has stopped working. Has anyone experienced this type of pain and how was it treated?

I developed severe joint pain during my first round of ADT that included a 22.5 mg injection. Of Lupron every three months and 50mg daily bicalutamide(casodex). My urologist also was not convinced that it was the meds but i do recall reading somewhere that bone pain is associated with ADT. Surprisingly enough, when I discontinued the therapy the oain went away but my PSA began to rise again. This last time around I did not experienced bone pain but became immediately Hormone refactory and my PSA spiked so casodex was removed and chemo started. That made the bone pain semm like a walk in the park. I am now on zytiga with Lupron and tolerating that pretty well but have ocassional edema n my legs every now and then.

Unfortunately, my husband also has kidney cancer. He had a kidney and adrenal gland removed in March and cannot take prednisone or any other steroids. Earlier this morning, a friend suggested he take Tylenol extra strength to help with the pain. We'll see if that works.

I've been on Lupron/Casodex for almost 6 months now...without any real joint/muscle pain. I'm also just finishing up chemo...

I do have occasional aches/pains in some bones, but they are just momentary, and aren't debilitating at all.

I have heard of others saying that they do experience joint/muscle pain with the Lupron thought.

Question...how active is he? I think making sure he exercises, even a brisk 20 minute walk everyday will help. I know at first, me might not want to because of the pain, but i think the walk might help soften the pain for him once he starts doing it.

Sorry to hear about your husband's pain. My husband is also a G-9, on Lupron and Casodex with bone pain in the hips and femur. This may sound simple (or even a little bit crazy) but he uses Blue Emu cream and is able to get back to sleep. It's available everywhere (Walmart, Walgreen's, etc) - and doesn't work for everyone, but when it does help, it helps right away. Hope it will work for your DH - Suzanne

Thank you for your responses. My husband is very active. He plays golf as much as possible and he works out on his elliptical in our house 3-4 times a day. He feels better right after working out but then the pain comes right back.he has always worked out so this is not new. Will try the Blu Emu

I have rheumatoid arthritis, and in addition to steroids I take an Aleve in the morning. It has SE s associated with the stomach, but I don't know about kidneys. It has worked better for reducing inflammation for me than all the other over the counter pain relievers. Best wishes and let us know how the DH is doing.
