Allen,
Don't worry about
raining on my parade. I have an umbrella.
I am aware that there are no cures for advanced prostate cancer at this time. What disturbs me is that it seems that all of the research is aimed at palliative treatment. From a business perspective this is ideal. It turns every desperate patient into an ATM for the pharmaceutical company and the oncological team. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the treatment I have received. I have spent over $200,000 of my own money (uninsured when this started) and no idea what the most recent round is costing medicare and insurer but looks like something close to $50,000 at this juncture and that does not include the value of the NIH trial. Results? No better off than when I started in April of 2008. In fact worse off. I read an article a couple of years ago that stated that of all the recent drugs approved by the FDA only about
10% had a curative intent. This is all maladies not just prostate cancer.
My point is I would like to find a study that is going for the brass ring. Either kill me or cure me. I don't want to go to bed thinking of this stuff and wake up with it on my mind or have to consider doctor appointments in day to day activities. I feel like I spend all of my time at the doctors office or pharmacy. I do not seem to be able to get things coordinated such that I can have three contiguous or even two contiguous months without making a trip to one or the other. Since January this year I have made six doctor visits, four pharmacy visits and three trips to NIH.
Allen, I suppose I am ranting so my apologies. I will stop. As always your advice is appreciated. I hope I have not offended you.
