Update on treatment

Hi Guys! It's been a while since my last post. At that time I was thinking of having my treatment at home but on further thought decided to have it done at MSKCC. I guess my final decession was based on my wife's treatment out come for melanoma at MSKCC. Her outcome was excellent and the folks there were wonderful.I finally decided on a combo of LDB + SBRT. I had the LDB done at the end of October. I had a few problems. I couldn't urinate after the inplant and had to have a catheterfor a few days and after it was removed I still had difficulty urinating so they posponed the SBRT treatment for a few more weeks.They didn't want to make the problem worse. They gave me an antibiotic and flomax which fixed the problem. I had the SBRT of every other day for 5 treatments the week before christmas.I've had a few side effects which were frequent urination and bowl movements but most of that has cleared up. I just had my first 3 month visit which the doctor was very pleased with but the only thing he had to base that on was my QOL report. I had blood work an MRI and his visit all on the same day so he din't have any of the lab data back jet.That brings me to a question I have for anyone who has had this treatment protocol. I got my PSA results on my portal and it had gone done from a preop value of 5.5 to 0.73.I don't know if this is good,bad or otherwise. I wasn't able to discuss this with the doctor since he didn't have the results jet and I haven't been able to talk to him as yet about this or the MRI results. He did say that it would take 18 to 24 months to reach 0.0 so I was wondering the significance of this rapid drop. What has been others outcomes. I would appreciate hearing your feed back.

That appears to be a very fast initial PSA drop using the radiation combination. I would be very pleased at this point. For radiation you want to achieve a low point (nadir) PSA of <.20 and then stay there. This can take some time to reach as your doctor has explained. And there is often a "bounce" in the 12-24 month range where the PSA moves up then back down. Though the "bounce" is normal for many men, it can be a bit disheartening when it occurs.

It sounds like you have minimum side effects and have healed well from the procedures. Well done. I would expect a very favorable long-term outcome.

Looks like great results do far. Sorry but I forgot what LDP stands for? is that Lupron Therapy? In any case keep posting, keep doing what you are doing , keep us posted.
