Elevated Liver Enzymes Question

I was supposed to start chemotherapy this week but had to delay due to elevated liver enzyme blood results. Liver enzymes were elevated and slightly higher than last month. Doctors did an MRI with contrast and blood work and ruled out mets to the liver or hepatitis, fatty liver disease etc..... all clean. They want to be cautious and want elevations down before starting chemo. I have cut out alcohol and diet is relatively good.

My question is has anyone else experienced elevated liver enzymes in the absence of any objective testing explanation while beginning HDT? Doctors believe no correlation between HDT and elevated liver enzymes. Has anyone had this experience?

I was on vacation the week before blood test and hoping it was just that.

John, you do not say which enzymes but there are two that can be effected by heavy exercise and actually result from muscle damage. The two are AGOT and SGOT. I used to work out hard and I take statins so we always checked liver enzymes. You will be surprised by the number of doctors who do not know about this relationship. Usually a week of rest and the enzymes came back to normal. Muscle tissue breakdown was the driver.

If you did a lot of strenuous stuff on vacation like bare knuckle cliff climbing or auditioning for American Ninja Warrior these two enzymes could be elevated

I have slightly high ALT as well. No real reason, but 6 points high none the less.

The elevated enzymes were AST and ALT.

How high are your enzymes? Liver function tests can be affected by so many things. Generally the rule of thumb is to be concerned if the tests are 3x normal. Was the T. Bili also elevated?

ALT 5-26-2016=94. 12 days after Lupron shot 176.
AST 5-26-2016=60. 12 days after Lupron shot 76.

I'm wondering if the Lupron is a factor.

A few years ago, while on ADT2 (Lupron and Casodex)


I had a high ALT/AST.

Dr. Lam said stop the Casodex. That was it and stuff quickly returned to normal. In fact, I was able to resume Casodex without any repeat issues.
