Hi. For those with early-stage, high-risk prostate cancer and who have been treated by Dr. Onik, I would welcome any comment or advice about Dr. Onik. He has published some very high success rates with his optimized focal cryoablation therapy, and I am planning on getting treated by him through his Center in Florida.

Since he has only reported on 5 patients with Gleason scores of 8-10 (and most of those 5 would be Gleason 8), he has only treated a couple of patients with a Gleason 9 like yours. I doubt you will find them here. You may be better off asking the doctor if you can call them (with their permission, of course).

Allen, thanks for your excellent advice. I have already done that -- requested a few patients' names so I can talk to them. You're right, might not be many G9's at all!

Onik has been around a long time. He is kinda the pioneer to treating prostate cancer with cryoablation. The main core I believe of these doctors are Barqawi, Crawford, Lee, Bahn, and Onik.

That stated, there is a lot of questions about it. Just like HIFU it has had a difficult time being accepted by the mainstream. Particularly with men with high risk disease.

Nothing has changed here for 15 years. Is it possible to suss fully treat prostate cancer with cry? yes. Is it possible that it is as effective as radiation or surgery ~ in some men its possible.

But it isn't likely it will become mainstream for advanced men.

Thanks, Tony. As I understand it, Dr. Onik has continued through the years to refine his use of cryoablation, so a great deal has changed in the last 15 years in terms of Onik's treatment protocols. He now characterizes his use of the treatment as optimized focal abalation. Moreover, his focus is on high-risk and recurrent PCa. Best, Boon

I met Gary Onik at the 2010 AUA conference. Barqawi too that same day just by chance. Nice enough guys. I've Bahn and Crawford as well in other places. I know all of these doctors to be passionate about cryo.
