That is a well-known part of castration resistance. There are several things that go on: the androgen receptor changes and doesn't need androgens for activation, other ligands or no ligands activate or block it, it multiplies on the surface so that it is more sensitive to the slightest amount of androgen, it translocates to the nucleus where it can't be blocked, it makes its own androgens, etc.
