Travelling

I'm also traveling this week. Later today I fly out of Chicago Midway to Philly for a week of house hunting. Hopefully I'll find an affordable (what exactly does that mean anyway) rental for my wife and I to move to in just a few weeks. Life is changing dramatically. The job I've held for nearly 26 years is ending October 3, and a new chapter opens October 17. With an 800 mile move in between.

All the best, doesn't seem that long ago we met in STL prior to your surgery.

As an FYI several years ago we left NE Ohio after 25 years and moved to STL a little better than three years ago. Toughest part of the move was leaving friends, figuring out dentist, dr, vet, church, etc. Get recommendations from your current providers and your realtor.

We moved with the attitude that this was going to be an adventure. And whenever you embark on adventure good things will happen and not so things. For us, it's been great. You will do well.

Good luck with new job and home. Can't tell you much about Philly as I have only visited twice but enjoyed both. Lots of good Italian food as I recall. Just one tip on moving. Sort your stuff into three piles. Keep, maybe keep and donate/trash. I did not do this a few years ago when I made a 2300 mile move. I wound up with boxes of junk (literally) and leaving some things I would like to have kept. I did get rid of all my furniture as it was over 20 years old and I did not think it would survive another move. Plus the cost to move it was more than replacement furniture. (no kidding!)

I did find the people there to be exceptionally friendly. Got invited to join a group at a bar where I was having a drink alone. Had the best time of my life that night. Turns out two or three others were strays like me.
