Genomic Testing for Prostate Cancer, this coming Monday, October 31 at 5pm Pacific, 6pm Mountain, 7pm Central and 8pm Eastern.

The presentation is the next in the 5th Monday Plenary Calls by ANSWER CANCER FOUNDATION www.ancan.org ; it will address all stages of prostate cancer testing.

We are honored to welcome two speakers Dr. Phil Febbo, Chief Medical Officer at Genomic Health www.genomichealth.com/en-US/who_we_are/leadership/Febbo to address initial diagnosis and post-surgical testing, and Dr. Tariq Mughal VP Medical Affairs at Foundation Medicine /www.foundationmedicine.com/tariq-mughal-md/ to explain late stage gene sequencing alternatives.

There should be ample time for questions. We will consider:

What kind of information does the genome provide.

Also, is it a blood test or do they need your biopsy or surgical tissue?

I will post the complete report this week. It was a blood test and they tested 14 different genes.

fyi:

The test was done through Invitae through a simple blood test.

These were the genes tested:

BRAC1, BRAC2, CHEK2, EPCAM, HOXB13, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6,NBN, PMS2, AND TP53, as well as 1 preliminary-evidence gene, specifically ATM. In addition, given some information in the literature to suggest that RAD51D and BRIP1 may be associated....


These are the results:

"...which did not identify a documented mutation in any of the 14 genes analyzed, but did identify a variant of uncertain significance (VUS) in the BRIP1 gene...."

I'm kind of ignorant about the implications. Let's say they find a genetic mutation. Will that help handicap a tx (ie: more likely or less likely to succeed). Does finding something always augur well? Or might it be bad news?

Hi Arden, thanks for the post.

Did you ever get an answer on how they choose the sample to be tested on OncotypeDx? Also, are they tested only the most aggressive sample or all positive samples?
