Paxton said " In other words, if your T level is 146 or 1460, the impact on your prostate and your prostate cancer will be the same" so why would his low T be a benefit in slowing down the progression?
Low T does not slow the progression, but "NO" T would. That is the gist of Dr. Morgentaler's position. He does clearly state, though, that this is not a purely medical decision to make. There ARE unknowns. It is up to the patient to decide whether or not he wants to accept the unknowns and forge onward or take the conservative approach.
In my case, with only one core of GS 3+4, and only 2% of the gland tumor-involved, we felt that TRT was a relatively minor risk. Each case is different. Although the theories are the same, and are believed to be proven, the risks may be greater with more aggressive or more invasive disease.
As always, YMMV. We make the best decisions we can, given our best understanding of the information available.
