Has anyone on this forum had staples come loose after surgery? My spouse had the incision staples removed but he thinks their maybe a staple that came loose inside. He's scheduled to see his doctor next week. But I'm afraid he'll have to go back to surgery again. He was told not to lift anything but he has been lifting since surgery.

It may be possible that something feels "loose" inside, but highly unlikely that it would be a staple. If there were internal staples left in his body, the doc would have to open the incision again to remove them. There are absorbable sutures, but I've never heard of staples that can be absorbed.

If he has an internal suture that is coming loose, it would depend upon where it is. It could heal just fine, it could be a problem, maybe from lifting.

Worth a call to the doc, maybe another visit, just to be safe.

I had open surgery with staples on the outside of the incision that were removed at nine days. I never considered metal staples being inside and will definitely check on that when I have my follow up as that would be important to know for airport security or future MRI. When they took my staples out they warned that straining or lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for the next four weeks puts me in danger of my incision opening up and needing to be restapled. The thought of going through that was enough to scare me straight. Of course if you think something came loose you should absolutely consult the surgeon but at the very least cut out the heavy lifting until the doctor gives the okay.

My surgeon used Titanium staples to reattached the urethra to the bladder. Titanium is suppose to be the least likely to get rejected.

At approx the four or five year mark my body decided it didn't like one of the staples and started to reject it... This was found by blood in my urine.

I'll spare you the details of trying to get the staple out while I was awake.... Day surgery took care of the staple.
