Can metastasis be stopped or prevented?

I know we can slow down mets but can we stop them once they start? Or do anything to prevent them from happening in the first place? Or if RP fails and there's chemical recurrence does that mean mets will eventually happen one day anyway?

I know hormones can slow this process down (and slow down the time to mets too?! or no?)

I guess now that my dad is metastatic I want to know what we can do to stop more popping up or at least hold them off long-term.

Lupron + Zytiga reduced the clear mets on my ribs to the point that they were hard to find on the last bone scan, but Zytiga also shut down my liver, so I had to stop it.

Lupron + Xtandi had a couple of "greatly improved" months, but that has stopped, leaving me more or less stable at a PSA of 1.4 ( fluctuation of +/- .2 in the last three tests). I've not had a new bone scan since September. Currently I'm on 6 month Lupron shots, and taking the Xtandi daily

I would ask about those, but both require monthly blood work and careful attention when done right.

some guys respond much better to treatment than others. Todd comes to mind here. really his case has been a miracle. so I would say it could happen in your case. good luck!
