I had the AMS-800 installed yesterday. Stayed one night in hospital. Some swelling. Pain is manageable with an occasional Tylenol. Surgeon was concerned about operating on someone having been radiated. But, it was fine.

One issue is that I have reduced bladder capacity. Once I hit 250 ml I am seriously needing to go. 300 ml seems like the upper limit of what it naturally holds. I hope my bladder can get used to holding more with the AUS installed.

The surgeon put in a 4.5 cm cuff. The plan will be to go to 4 cm in 5 years and then 3.5 cm in another 5 years.

He cautioned me that I will not be 100% dry but will see a lot of improvement. However, even talk of just needing 1 pad per day is thrilling.

The AUS will be activated on 5/22 -- can't wait.

Thanks for the update. I'm going under the knife for AUS on 5/5 and I know there are several other guys here either scheduled for or planning for AUS this summer. We will be following your progress closely.

I can't wait, either.

Congratulations SC from another T3B'er, on going thru with this big decision and good luck for your continued recovery. I'll be right behind Tony with my implant going in on 5/15. Both my RO and Urologist recommended getting the AUS before starting SRT... that's a big reason for getting the AUS in the first place is so I can hold a full bladder for the IMRT treatment. Fortunately I have good capacity (500ml) but can't hold it very long once I get on my feet... hence the AUS.

I've heard what radiation does to tissues and that was a big reason for going with RP rather than some RT initially. Now I'm getting Lupron HT shots in the meantime... side effects not too bad so far. We'll all be very glad when all of this is behind us!

Congrats SC for taking this step. I really hope it works for you as well as it has worked for me.

Now be sure you have a couple of bags of frozen peas to use "DOWN THERE" to help with the swelling. I use a bag while keeping another one in the freezer for back up. Best thing I could advise you.
