Ok, Here is another update today, 05/12/2017;
I started the Zytiga + Prednisone on April 5th. This is my last few PSA results as the Lupron started to lose it's efficacy to prevent the PSA from rising, and then the latest PSA as of yesterday;
12/30/16 05.87
02/01/17 10.60
04/03/17 20.71
05/11/17 11.50
This has made my first month on this new treatment worth while, and shows that it seems to be working well.
I just thought that there are some members that may want to know this data.
Thanks,
Ted

Here is an update on my status.
I am now Castrate Resistant Prostate Cancer (CRPC), with my PSA going to 20.17 on 04/03/2017. I started Zytiga+Prednisone on 04/05/2017. I received a Lupron implant in 02/2017 that will provide a continual dosage for 12 months.
It has been a journey that took me from 12/2007 until 02/2017 to get to this stage. This may provide some sense of hope for others on their journey, where their prostatectomy failed to work. I think it is a good thing to look back over my journey to know that from diagnosis to CRPC it took over 9 years.
It may take another month or so before I will know how well the Zytiga+Prednisone will work for me, but from what I have heard from others on this blog, it is expected that this may drop my PSA down to undetectable. It is hoped that this will start the clock ticking all over again. It is anticipated that I may get another two or three years, and possibly longer, before the alarm starts sounding. This treatment has an average efficacy of 24 to 36 months.
The next phase will most likely be to visit with the Oncologist to make a plan for Chemo Therapy.
Anyone else that has had a journey like mine may want to chip in as well.
Thanks,
Ted.

We share part of the same journey, but I was a Gleason 8 and it took me five years to get to Zytiga. My last psa was .16, which was down from .26 two months earlier. I am now entering year three of Zytiga. Some fatigue and mood changes, maybe due to the prednisone or lupron. I guess when you have all of those meds going to war in your body it becomes difficult to know what causes what. I wish you the best while your on Zytiga.

Hi Tedgard,
Sorry to hear that you have joined the CRPC club but it sounds as if you are getting excellent care. Zytiga has worked wonders for me since November 2015 and for most it provides excellent results.
I notice in your signature that your gleason score was 3+3. I have heard so many on this site claim that a gleason 6 score grows so slowly that therapy is almost never needed. I have also read claims that Gleason 6 cancer is so much like regular prostate tissue that it would be impossible to survive outside of the prostate.
Your particular case seems to refute those claims and is a good example why we should all be our own best advocate and learn as much about
this disease is possible.
I'm sorry that I went off on a rant on your post but I did find it noteworthy. Take care and wishing you lots of success with Zytiga.

Ted, did the pathology report after your surgery confirm that you were indeed a Gleason 6 ?
My path is similar to yours but I was a Gleason 9 so my journey is moving along at a somewhat higher speed....

Yes, it was 6, and all margins were negative.
The Dr told me that the left apex and nerve bundle was involved, and he had to take more tissue than he first thought. Regardless, the theory is that with the nerve involved, the PC cells can follow along the nerve like a train and escape the prostate bed.
The PSA moved beyond the undetectable level after about
three years. Radiation failed, and the PSA started rising about
90 days later. The Lupron worked for about
three years.
My hope is that I can get another three or more years out of the Zytiga + Prednisone before having to move on to Chemo.
Thanks,
Ted

Hello Ted,
Many of us here are on ZYTIGA ... truly hoping it works well for you ...
I started ZYTIGA after finishing up a series of chemotherapy treatments ...
In my case, the ZYTIGA knocked my P.S.A. down to an all-time low ...
ZYTIGA is still helping me ...
I am on my 22nd monthly bottle of ZYTIGA ... I'm a school teacher and it has carried me through two entire school years. I'm grateful for that.
I decided to start saving the empty ZYTIGA bottles, just as a way to mark my progress.
Wishing you all the best, Ted !

Many men in our situation have had good results from the Provenge treatment...Quicker than Chemo and with a lighter side-effect load. I would like to try BAT but it's still in trials at only one facility, Johns-Hopkins in Baltimore...

Similar ride but my horse is a little faster. Diagnosed four years ago. Went through Eligard and 40 radiation treatments. Two years after I stopped the Eligard and things went well for a year then my PSA shot up and I went back on ADT. Last December I became CRPCa and in January bone mets were discovered. I've been on Zytiga/Prednisone for70 days now and my PSA is <1.0. Through out this I've been asymptmatic other than treatment side affects, mostly fatigue and ED. I'll just ride this thing out, do what I can and play the cards I was dealt. Heading to the southwest in a couple of weeks for some fun cause if you can't have fun what's the point.
