I had a robotic prostatectomy and diverticulotomy on April 11. The surgery went well, but I'm still dealing with incontinence issues. My urologist stated that since I had a complicated history before my surgery that included a great deal of retention due to the large diverticulum as well as some incontinence problems, my incontinence may last for some time. There are days that I'm dry the entire day, and think that I'm on my way, then the next day is a complete reversal. Is this quite normal? I've done the kegel exercises; when I remember, but they aren't helping much. I wore diapers on occasion before my surgery, and am pretty use to doing so. Should I continue to manage as I am? The surgeon mentioned the possibility of an artificial urinary sphincter, or bladder sling. I really don't want to have any more mechanical devices placed in me in order to make me void a little better. I also have read that these devices can cause problems. I'm 70 years young, so not sure if age can be a factor as well. If any others on this site have had similar experiences, I would like to know how you have/are coping. Thanks in advance.

Mozart...your surgeon...hopefully mentioned the artificial sphincter...as a last resort.to relieve your anxiety...Its way too early for that...way too early...you should get more advice as the day progresses...tho there does seem to be a malaise of sorts...combined with forum fatigue on the forum lately...Ya know same old questions...same old answers...it happens...if you want you can share some details and progressions of the dis ease itself...thanks for coming here and sharing yourself with us...if your thread starts fading due to this there are archives with all kinds of info on incontinence due to pca surgury....un fortunately im not sure how to search them...others may....good luck...oh... you will get thru this... regards ps your poll seems silly to me...but what do I know...we are all uniquely the same....

I really didn't know what the poll was asking for. I tried to get out of it, but it indicated I had to post a couple of things before I could. Therefor, it is what it is. Please ignore it.

Well it appears the forum has no advice for you in that realm...and yes I will bump to shame...but when Im involved...they get awfully stubborn...that also seems silly to me...and so it goes....hang in there Mozart...your namesake got little attention while alive as well...I think with patience...it{incontenence} will self resolve...let.s both hope so...take care...don't let it ruin your recovery...time really does heal...
