My sweet wife and I drove 440 miles yesterday beginning at 4am to Tampa FL from Auburn Al where we had been celebrating America's Independence day and also my wife's birthday..... same day. My previous MRI had shown a sliver of what appeared to be an unknown fluid right against my prostate. Dr Freeman figured it was probably blood from the fiducial marker placement but she wanted another MRI for comparison to see if the fluid was increasing which would definitely cause a problem with the treatment regimen. Fortunately, the new scan showed that the fluid is disappearing so it will not be an issue and my SBRT treatment should begin either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. We drove home last night (another 240 miles) and will return to Tampa for the two week treatment period this Sunday. I will post updates after each treatment for any who might be giving SBRT consideration as a treatment modality. Finding out that the glitch is resolving without any further procedures or delays is a huge relief and now I'm getting totally stoked about finally getting this show on the road. TA..... It really wasn't only for the same machine although her protocol and attention to consistency is remarkable. The other issue was preserving the planned treatment dates and schedule. Getting another MRI done very quickly was not in the cards in any other place. Requesting this past Monday to have an MRI scheduled for Wednesday, the day after a major holiday turned out to be somewhat of an issue. We are booked into a condo for the required two weeks of treatment in Tampa and while changes could be made, it would be expensive and potentially could cause some other scheduling problems. Like many, we have lots of other responsibilities and one of our main ones is caregiving for my 99 year old MIL. Life is complicated sometimes and Dr Freeman and her staff have done everything possible to make this process work with the least amount of complications. She got me in for an appt yesterday and I was just glad to get it done and over with. And btw, we asked Mayo in Jax to do this since I am a patient there..... they said they could get me scheduled in several weeks......
