Better Path Report than I expected...so more good news!

Just got a copy of my Anatomic Pathology Report, and it looks very good to me. I'll see what my Urosurgeon says about it tomorrow when my catheter comes out. To wit:

G3+4 confirmed; G4 = 10%

Carcinoma in 15% of gland which was 16 gm (previous TURP)

Organ confined

Negative for EPE; Negative SV

pT2c pNO pMn/a

 

Grade: Group 2

Anterior Margins Involved by invasive

carcinoma: Limited (<3mm)

Length of positive margin: 0.1mm --- not bad, right?

Additional margins negative for carcinoma

No LN involvement of 4 examined

The pathology report was signed by a U of Miami resident.

Should I request a second opinion from Dr. Epstein???

garyi, that's as good a post surgery path report as you can get. You're right, a 0.1 mm positive margin is almost inconsequential. The key will be to monitor your PSA for the future and see (a) what low point it goes to--it should be non-detectable at 3 months and (b) keep monitoring it, using the same lab and the same test procedure, every 3 months for the first year or two, then less often.

Usually isn't not needed to have the post surgery pathology read again. I know some guys have done it, but most of us haven't. Again, the key for the future is what your PSA does.

Now, get that catheter out, start peeing when you choose, and get your partner involved in the rest of your rehabilitation. For now, sounds like a good steak dinner is in your future. Unless you prefer lobster.

It's 8 hours since my catheter removal and I almost feel guilty. My Depends is dry as a bone and I've urinated once, standing up, using a 'pee jar' to keep the bathroom clean and mama happy.

My Urosurgeon, Dr. Marc Gonzaglo, does a double bladder suspension stitch to help with incontinence. Seems to be working!

Time will tell, but I feel very fortunate and extremely satisfied. Thanks for all the advise and well wishes, guys.

Thank JB&GG....

So far so good. No real leakage, just urinating every couple of hours No complaints from me. I feel very lucky.

Back to Kegals in a day or two.
