Congratulations on the clear bone scan/CT. Now you can get down to the business of curing this thing.

Can you get in to see Michalski? Dr. Gay may be fine, but I believe it's always best to see the top practitioners. I don't think surgery for high risk is as good as brachy boost therapy. But you have to find an RO who can do that, not just any RO. Brachy boost therapy has outcomes that are twice as good as surgery in high risk patients:

Met with Dr. Figenshau in St. Louis yesterday. Scheduling surgery on Monday. Sounds like it will be sometime in October before I can get it done.

My urologist, an oncologist (friend of a friend), local RO and Dr. Figenshau have all recommended surgery over radiation. That's what I am most comfortable with from all I have learned here and in reading, so that is the plan.

Will update as things develop.

A-Aron, good for you to have made the decision. Dr. F is one of the best (but mostly unknown outside of the St. Louis area). One of my most distinct memories was about 2 weeks before surgery, I went down for the pre-surgery consult with the anesthesia staff. The RN who did my workup said, unprompted, "I see you're down for RALP with Dr. Figenshau. If my husband had to have it done, he's the one I'd want." That boosted me a bunch.

I stumbled across this old post looking for info on Dr. Michalski, who I may be seeing at some point if we end up going onto radio-pharmaceutical treatments. I saw Tall Allen's post mentioning Dr. Gay, who I saw for some spot radiation to my spine a couple of years ago and I wanted to assure any future searchers that he did a great job for me. He is no schlub. He is in charge of radiation oncology at the Siteman location I use and I found him to be a very good communicator, completely at ease with talking about research topics. He co-authors on several things Michalski has done, and while I agree in general with Tall Allen about finding the best practitioner's possible, I did great with Dr. Gay. Michalski is indeed a top researcher at Wash U.
