I had to go apply for ssa disability benefits to continue getting my S&A Benifits at work while I'm off for my shoulder replacement. While talking to the lady giving her my medical history she told me that i would automatically qualify for disability with my dx of high risk cancer then with psa reading of 1.2 following surgery, my question was is 1.2 legally considered recurrence or does it have to be .2? Anybody have any experience or knowledge about ssa disability? Thanks

To my knowledge there is nothing automatic. What doe exist is that some advanced PCa cases qualify for the Compassionate determination. This doesn't grant disability but does advance one ro the first in the line. Some have gotten a determination in a matter of a few months rather than the normal 3-5 years. Go on the social security website and you will see the exact conditions to qualify and see whether you fit. Basically it covers advanced metastatic disease.

I am in the midst of a disability application right now, and JNF is correct. There seems to be no clear rule. Even the Compassionate categories were changed in Jan '17, and PCa lost some import.

The book specifically excludes "biochemical" recurrence. There has to be some indication of metastasis. But how that is decided, unless you have a scan or biopsy, is very vague.
