I had my first post op today and everything went well. I was a little worried as up to this point, I'd had no blood in my urine but once I started to disrobe, low and behold, the bag looked like syrup! When the Dr came in he just went, meh....looks ok. I was pretty nervous that I was not going to be able to get the catheter out.
The doctor and I discussed the pathology report and it was basically all good. All the margins are clear, the siminal vessels and lymph nodes are clear as well. My prostate was right at about 46 g. The cancer was bilateral and consistent with the biopsy, T2 and a Gleason of 7 (3+4). The cancer was about 5% of the prostate.
Then came the fun stuff. The nurse proceeded to take out the 14 staples it we're holding all my incisions closed. And then the catheter. I don't know what to think because I've never had one before but it was pretty interesting. Because she was removing it I can feel it in my stomach and it didn't hurt but as it started to clear the end of my penis, then the pain started. It was more of a burning sensation than anything. That only lasted for about 20 minutes and then he pretty much subsided.
I decided to use absorbing underwear and a large pad. From that point forward there was no leaking but maybe a little blood staining. I have since had lunch and it's been about two hours and no leaking yet. I have not had the urge to urinate yet so we'll see how that goes when the time comes. But all in all, I'm happy with the outcome.
The best part was being able to walk normally again without the catheter. So this afternoon is going to consist of watching TV and maybe a small walk with the dogs around the block. Of course the wife will have the dogs I'll just do the walking!
