After being here for 18 months now I'm starting to see guys fade away from being as active as they once were when I first got here. Some have gone on after the insanity of the first year or so wears off and hopefully moved forward. Those that have a more difficult Dx tend to hang around more. Newbies keep showing up all freaking out like the rest of us did. I will never forget Calijr sticking up for me and the quote he used was " Give him a break guy's he just started ADT and he cries over spilt milk right now" I'm sure it was after I posted some rant about how offended I was at someone telling me the truth!! Probably TA......

I guess what I'm trying to say is.........This is how this works.....I wouldn't expect everyone to stick around and even I have slowed way back on posting.....To the ones that stay and keep giving back....THANK YOU...your experience and knowledge is invaluable to those that are still here and especially the new guys that show up!
It is quite heart warming to be far enough into the process to see the calm start to come over ones that showed up after me and follow along in their journey. To witness their struggle....their fight....their determination.... To watch ones that were newbies not too long ago...start to be able to give back as they learn through experience and all that goes into battling this thing.

To the ones that are somewhat smarter than I......just kidding.....to those that invest time in learning about PC and treatments and seem to have too much time on their hands.....THANK YOU.....

The moderators......sometimes a tough job for sure.....THANK YOU!

I still at times feel like I'm just starting this journey....and really... I think am. I don't think that with my Dx I will ever be free of this thing.....even if I achieve the "cure"...it will always be there somehow.

We often hear that "this is my new normal"..... I don't like... "the new normal"...it is always changing!!but... I must become OK with it if I am to move forward along the journey and have enjoyment through out......the only way that is even remotely possible is if I find some way to have gratitude for my " New Normal"

Feeling phylisophical today...and gratefull....

Thanks for your words, thanks for your thoughts, thanks for being here! I seem to vaguely remember back some time ago, in one of your rare rants you were leaving us..glad you stayed.

Nice post Mark. The people, advice, and support in this forum are priceless. I definitely feel better knowing that I can come here and talk with others going through the same issues.

The link below is to a thread-and-poll that I posted back in May 2013 and which was well received. (Lots of responses).

The topic was "What is the main reason why you keep coming to this list?"

The possible answers in the poll included getting information, psychological and emotional support, and the chance to offer advice to others. The poll response with the most votes was "… experiences of others can guide me."

Posts in the thread included comments such as this forum serves an actual purpose, as opposed to things like sports or political forums, one poster actually hoped to find the "silver bullet" of a cure here, along with other insightful comments.

Perhaps the most complimentary comment expressed was ",,, there is no way I would be in the absolutely awesome place I am with respect to knowledge about this beast and the various treatment approaches without the brotherhood and sisterhood of this site."

Lots of people. Lots of reasons why. And some good things said about our HW PC forum.

So the things said on that earlier thread seem relevant to what's being said here today on this current one, and maybe taking another look now at what was said on that older thread back then, how others have felt about coming here, would be worth the time:

Mark not sure how good an artist you are although I would guess your pretty darn good but I will say you are truly a great artist with your words wished I had some of that ability!! My Dad once told me I couldn't draw a barn if I was standing in it! LOL. Thanks again for sharing with us.

I don't post much any longer, but I do check in frequently to see how everyone is doing and who has come aboard with a new dx. One thing for certain, I have made friendships from being here, most only by posts and email, but no less real than if I knew these folks by face. The people here will always be considered family by me. You got me through the darkest days and hours of my life, and for that I am and will always be grateful. As Mark said already in all caps, THANK YOU!

Thanks for your poetic and wise post. One thing I've learned, though, is that the freaking out isn't just newbies. It happens whenever a treatment fails. I'm on my third cycle of freaking smile But it always leads to the same things, more research, seeing how others have done, add potentially helpful posts when you can, and keep in mind that life is a terminal illness. None of us can cure it, some of us can extend it, and we should all try to be productive for as long as it lasts.
