When do you start saying "I had prostate cancer"? Is there some point where it's fairly certain that your treatment was fully successful?

Not sure you ever can Mike...but the incidence of PCa has been very good to me...perspective...kinda like old soldiers...artists and athletes...they just fade away

I say it ten months out of the year and started that 5 years ago.

Ever six months the cancer monitoring sends me a reminder to get my PSA tested. Those two months I don't say, "I had" but rather, "Still dealing with."

sigh...

Going to go comfort my soul with a double bacon cheese burger and a beer.

That's sorta like asking when can you say you are cured. My standard comment on PCa is that I "had" prostate cancer almost 10 years ago and "I'm cured". That's my story and I'm sticking with it until proven otherwise!

I figure I'm cured until I see evidence otherwise. I also generally say "had" prostate cancer, although I can't think of the last time I've even mentioned it to someone. (Well, other than here.)

On a personal note, I have to say I like your screen name.

Go five years with no treatment and a PSA that is undetectable for that whole time.(assuming you had an RP)

A couple years ago I was on Lupron and shooting undetectables for 2 1/2 years.
I then went on a Lupron vacation for a year and PSA started shooting back up.

I will never be cured.

I'm cured. Unless something can prove otherwise. I started saying that right after my curative therapy, but said it with more conviction after my PSA reached 0.5.

Clinically I think five years of no detectable PSA is considered 'cancer free,' at least that's what a nurse practitioner told me .

I have been successfully treated for prostate cancer.

Are you cured?

I am in remission and doing very well.

How else would I answer?

I hope I am cured, but no doctor will confirm it, so how can I? I feel great and have absolutely no trepidation nor concern about PCa. I don’t have to know I am cured to know I am doing very well. I will continue to monitor the situation because I know I may not be cured.

If you know you are cured you will no longer have a PSA test nor see your doctor regarding PCa.

Actually JNF...that's not quite accurate at least re members on this forum...I know longer do psa testing nor see a anyone re.PCa...and as you may note from my post near the top...I do not consider my self cured I have no idea if that's true...but when I do mention it to others...I use the term remission...its a bit less well you know...presumptuous. For a guy like me...that's a move in the right direction...btw that's a recent shift... smile

I know, but I'm slowly turning into an old guy and one beer will get me going back and forth to the bathroom all afternoon.

But in my younger days my motto was, "24 beers in a case. 24 hours in a day. Coincidence? I think not."

I just told someone the other day that hopefully it is in check and if I'm lucky that's where it will stay but if it isn't will deal with it when it shows its ugly head!!! What else can a guy do? I suppose I could follow a diet like Cashless Clay or mmmm a double cheeseburger with bacon like i In the shop? Ah maybe take turns!! Lol
